Hello from Garfield! Updates from Executive Director Jody Opheim – September 26, 2025

The Giving Grid

The nights may be getting cooler, but The Giving Grid program is heating up (over 20 schools and counting) and our first school solar installation is complete and generating power!

We will be in Harrington October 1 with our project partners, Zero Emissions Northwest (ZEN), Avista and Washington State University to celebrate this achievement with the community. If you are in the area, stop by the park at 10 a.m. for the ribbon cutting festivities (and yes, ZEN has a giant pair of scissors for the occasion). The students are excited to participate, and the band is going to play. A shindig if ever there was one!

I am also pleased to announce that Eric Johnson was elected president of the PRWA board of directors earlier this week. Eric brings decades of relevant experience to the position, having most recently served as the executive director of the Washington State Association of Counties (WSAC). He is also a partner with Columbia Policy Advisors and has a deep understanding of the challenges faced by many rural Washington communities. Eric joins newly-elected vice president Helen Price Johnson and returning treasurer Craig Muska and secretary Gabe Spencer to round out the board’s leadership team.

Enjoy this last weekend of summer, and I hope to see you in Harrington!

Take care,

Jody
