Story telling

Over the last few months, you’ve been hearing (and maybe even seeing a presentation or two) about PRWA, including our new partnerships and plans. I’ve shared news of our cooperative agreement with USDA Rural Development and our role in the Northwest Rural Investment Strategy. What I’ve not talked much about is the work we are doing in our rural communities. This is in part by design – it’s important to us that we have a firm foundation and are on secure financial footing so that we can be reliable service partners with Washington’s smallest communities. Our goal is to never over promise and under deliver.

Perhaps to our detriment at times, we shy away from taking the spotlight off the communities and their needs, preferring to be that steadfast, but quiet partner that rolls up their sleeves and gets the work done without constantly proclaiming, “look what I helped do!” For we are only helping, usually alongside many others. We are also protective of the relationships we have built with the people we serve. It’s often the town clerks that toil away on a daily basis, and without many “ta-da!” moments.

But we do recognize the need to talk about the work we do so it can continue, and we are proud of that work. To that end, we are delighted to announce our new Director of Communications, Kathy Barnard La Pointe. She’s going to help us tell the story of what PRWA does and highlight the communities we serve, and we’re excited to have her on board.

On a more personal note, I am also excited that I can soon turn on my exterior Christmas lights without judgment.

Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving,

Jody
